Here's a brief outline of the general processes I would recommend for upgrading your KX12 portal to a KX13 instance. There are additional wiki pages on the various steps to go into detail.

  1. Cleaning up Site Prior to Split: Clean up and remove as much old page content as possible that won't impact the current KX12 site.
  2. Split the Site: Clone the database and your files, you'll do all the next operations on this copy.
  3. Clean up Site After Split: Remove Archived/unpublished pages, page types, content, etc. Anything that won't be converted.
  4. Run Configurations: Get the Template, Sections, and Widget Configurations
  5. Go through Widget Configurations: Determine which should be converted, which can be combined, which are used so little that they are not needed.
  6. Go through Section Configurations: Determine which sections should be converted, handle any migration steps.
  7. Go through Template Configurations: Determine which should be converted, which can be combined, which are not needed.
