I've searched for a tool like this a while now... thanks for your efforts. Sadly it doesn't export contacts as "vcard" or a similar format. A friend of mine has an older iPhone backup which is too large for the new one and simply wants to export contacts from it. Is there any chance for supporting this?

Thanks for the feedback! I believe the contacts are stored in one of the Database sqlite files. While this tool only only operates on files, it should be possible to extend it to look into this db and convert/export individual VCF files.

Apparently the contacts database is under the name 31bb7ba8914766d4ba40d6dfb6113c8b614be442 according to this site

I haven’t checked any structures yet, but that database might likely have a straightforward format for integrating into this app, or manual extracting. This was the case for the SMS db (which would also be useful to export chat logs)
