finding source of error related to st_simplifypreservetopology

I have a set of cursors in my database such as
BEGIN READ ONLY;DECLARE qgis_1561 BINARY CURSOR FOR SELECT st_asbinary(st_simplifypreservetopology("detail_geometry3d_geometry",0.211667),'NDR'),"obj_id"::text FROM "tww_app"."vw_wastewater_structure" WHERE "detail_geometry3d_geometry" && st_makeenvelope( _coords of the bbox_ ,2056). that throw errors when closing them

I have figured out that st_simplifypreservetopology("detail_geometry3d_geometry",0.211667), causes an error on the db Geometry contains invalid coordinates. ST_IsValid does not find invalid geometries.

ended up finding it: one Z coordinate was nan
