Doorbell debugging/testing

Hello,
Looking to get a better understanding of what works and what doesn't with the doorbell. I attempted to implement the Livestream for it but I don't actually have the doorbell myself (yet at least) so I can't test.

It appears it works for some and not for others. Let's use this discussion to collect data. Please comment with the following info:

• Doorbell model
• version number of this HomeBridge plugin
• version of HomeBridge (or HOOBS)
• if you have ffmpeg installed and what version
• If you have notifications turned on in the Eufy app
• what parts work and what doesn't
• include logs from HomeBridge and any screenshots if necessary

Hopefully, this can help determine what bugs exist.

Latest version of homebridge. Latest version of this plugin BUT manually updated to the latest version of the eufy-node-client (this solved the streaming reliability). Edit: apparently, this wasn’t needed. And yet, it did result in streaming working. Must have been a coincidence.

Ffmpeg is installed.

The eufy app is at v3.01 and eufy notifications had stopped working for me. Now they are working fine having deleted and reinstalled the eufy app. This suggests that one conclusion is perhaps notification implementation might have changed on eufy’a end?

Streaming works well from HomeKit, whether from phone, Mac or Apple TV. Notifications for motion do not work. Notifications for a doorbell press do not work - not on phone, homepods or Apple TV.

Logs do not show motion or doorbell presses being registered. But, no other errors are being thrown and the alarm system status changes work well.

Interestingly after updating the Eufy App to 3.0.1 from 2.9.7 (I had to uninstall and reinstall as IOS didn't show an update) the camera streaming now seems to work 9 out of 10 times, where before it worked 1 out of 10 times.

I have not received a single notification for doorbell rings (i have motion alerts turned off in the Eufy app so I was not expecting those), I have all the notifications enabled in the Home app however. When the doorbell rings I get notified fine from the Eufy app but nothing in the Home app. There is nothing in the logs when the doorbell rings.

The app update has made a big difference to the streaming issue, which is odd.

Please let me thank you for doing this, I have been waiting for a plugin for this doorbell for so long! (I had to totally reset Hoobs and re-add all my accessories into homekit to make this work earlier as I had a stuck doorbell cam from a previous plugin that clashed!)

I hope the information i have given helps, please let me know if you want me to do anything else to help troubleshoot. Im more than happy to assist in anyway i can to make this a really great plugin!!

My other half had no notifications from the eufy app for a few days. She’s just updated the app and eufy notifications now work again.

So, that’s the mystery of eufy notifications going missing and maybe a reason why HomeKit notifications have stopped working: something has changed of eufy’s end?

Live streaming works great on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

What's not working:
Notifications (motion or ring) on any of these devices as per issue 30
I'm not receiving a static snapshot as per issue 28

To address your concern, so sorry to let you know that none of our video doorbells is able to support Homekit at this moment. For the Homekit on the doorbell, as you may know, HomeKit has specific requirements on hardware. We're actively investigating and trying. It's too early to say that it will be supported or not. Once it is supported, we will release the information officially. Please keep an eye on us.

I am unable to stream the Doorbell video in Home app. Haven't tested notifications yet. Camera works as expected in the Eufy app. Instead I see an animated Eufy splash screen when attempting to stream in the Home app (see still screenshot below):

Updated to 0.2.2 and I'm loving the on/off switches. It makes it helpful to "snooze" motion notifications for my 2C cameras (linked to Homekit officially via Eufy app). Still don't get any streaming or notifications from the Battery 2K Doorbell though.

Try to remove the plugin restart homebridge then reinstall and restart again homebridge

Make sure that camera, motion aren't appearing anymore on home app before to reinstall the plugin

I uninstalled the plugin, confirmed all accessories were removed from the Home app, and then reinstalled the plugin, but the doorbell camera still won't stream. Still works just fine in the Eufy app.

Thanks for trying to get this to work. I’ve two wireless battery t2810s.both on the latest firmware.

Streaming is working with both of them but a bit slow to load.
I don’t get any notifications from either but I have got both set up, one button only, the other button and motion. They are set up in HomeKit to allow it.
I also think I’m seeing motion notifications in the log appearing for the doorbell that had this turned off.

As of 0.2.3, I can no longer stream doorbell video from the Home app. No error is thrown, but the stream never starts. The account is not locked. Streaming works fine on the Eufy website and on the app.

On the positive side, I am getting notifications on the HomePods, Apple TV and via the Home app for rings at the doorbell, although they are somewhat delayed in my initial testing.

EDIT: uninstalled, re-installed, restarted homebridge, phone and streaming now working.

Yeah, sorry since we're modifying the code really often, you might need to reset the plugin by reinstalling it and restart home bridge.

As of 0.2.3, I can no longer stream doorbell video from the Home app. No error is thrown, but the stream never starts. The account is not locked. Streaming works fine on the Eufy website and on the app.

On the positive side, I am getting notifications on the HomePods, Apple TV and via the Home app for rings at the doorbell, although they are somewhat delayed in my initial testing.

EDIT: uninstalled, re-installed, restarted homebridge, phone and streaming now working.

I did some debugging and it seems `async handleMotionDetectedGet(callback)` in `securityDoorbellCameraAccessory` doesn't get called and thus no notification is being dispatched.

I think this plug-in only supports doorbell Livestream and Ringing Notification. No mention of motion being supported. Unless I'm reading this wrong.

Yeah it should but the fix I done for ring notification isn't working for the motion one. I need to dig on it. Looks like its done with program switch event instead of motion characteristics.Please bear with me.

Found it !!! It's because Eufy is doing a better identification of the motion. So if it's see an human it will send human motion while we're looking for lambda motion. Added on the PR #45

I'm not entirely sure I installed the required FFmpeg correctly. I get a stream (works about 50% of the time) with no audio. I log into my pi4 Homebridge install via browser and select "terminal" then pasted "npm i ffmpeg-for-homebridge" in. I get a message that says try with sudu so I did "sudu npm i ffmpeg-for-homebridge" and basically the same thing happens.
If I leave the browser window open on my pc I see it "Start stream" in the log when I select the doorbell in Home app on iPhone. Sometimes I see the white loading screen and it'll work. Other times I just get the spinner and eventually "no response"

I have never received a doorbell ring or motion alert. Only on demand streaming with limited success and no audio.

Sorry I'm totally ignorant here. Let me know what other info I can provide.

ps. I left the "polling interval" blank because I didn't know what it did and fear Eufy banning account.

Hi just installed your plugin for my new eufy battery 2k doorbell - my current config consists of 3 Hikvision cams linked via homebridge ffmpeg camera plugin with camera smtp plugin for motion activation. So I know my ffmpeg install works... 3.1.2

It does provide a stream directly from the hub. But haven't had luck getting it to play well with ffmpeg.

So current situation is with me is all latest plugins/firmwares etc all installed.

For clarity I have motion detection disabled at present as don't need this as have other cameras that monitor this same area.

Door bell notification works in home kit as well as in app.
However the snapshot that is shown in HomeKit in the notification is from last night. When opening the live stream - I get the same white image with the eufy logo again.

yes - I think I've already stated, I have 3 other cctv camera's - these are commercial HikVision cam's connected to a NVR - these are POE and exposed to HomeKit via the camera-ffmpeg plugin which all work perfectly with video on all devices.

further testing has revealed that motion notifications work in both HomeKit and app however in HomeKit I get (as already mentioned) the previous snapshot - and still have not live stream from this doorbell.

I think I have everything working at present. The alarm, motion and ring alerts are all working in app and in HomeKit. I get streaming no issue. We have 500 meg fibre broadband, so perhaps this helps.

The only thing that doesn’t work correctly - as is mentioned elsewhere - is the motion alert notifications from HomeKit provide an image capture of the previous motion/ring, not what’s actually just happened.

Yeah, I gather that, however, shadowing a previous snapshot (and this happens with notifications in HomeKit too) is pointless as you need to be able to grab a snapshot and display that of the moment the door press / motion event occurred.

At present when I look at my doorbell camera feed in preview on HomeKit, I see the face of the delivery driver bringing my takeaway last night - not a current snapshot of the current moment.
I too have the battery cam so not sure what the drain would be on this...

Work is being done on fixing this. But it is not trivial.

But @lenoxys does have a point. Fetching a stream and creating a snapshot every 10 seconds (like homekit default functionality) will surely drain the battery quickly. Should be something you can enable in config.

also ive noticed that my fully working camera's use the plugin Homebridge-camera-ffmpeg version 3.1.2 whereas this plugin recommends to install ffmpeg-for-homebrige which installs another instance of an ffmpeg system - which appears to be well out of date and is not listed on the `homebridge site' as even an available plugin.....

The difference between "Homebridge-camera-ffmpeg" and "ffmpeg-for-homebrige" is that the first is a homebridge plugin. The latter is the ffmpeg binaries. And "Homebridge-camera-ffmpeg" actually uses "ffmpeg-for-homebrige".

Sounds as if the same accessory is added multiple times. Can you attach some more log of what happens prior to this?

Sure thing, I actually removed everything from Apple Home, reset the homebridge (actually wiped it by flashing a new image onto a new SD card).

It seems the motion is triggering and the TypeError: this.eufyDevice.isMotionDetected is not a function displays over and over and over. The UUID error only pops up at start up, but could be the main cause of woes.

That said, the video works and the doorbell button chimes properly on the apple home, though the snapshots seem to be of the last event, not the current press...

Just installed with my Battery doorbell and streaming doesn't seem to work. I get the white logo, and every time the logs show:

Since update 0.2.13, video stream only seems to work one out of every two times. Also, every time I access my Battery 2K Doorbell camera in Home app, Eufy sends me an email with a one-time security code, even though I am using a separate guest account without two-factor authentication. No audio, or playback of HKSV recording available.

On the good side, the doorbell chimes on my Home-Pods and when I can get the video stream, it shows up on all my Apple devices. Snapshot in HomeKit works. Snapshot when viewing doorbell preview - shows last picture OK.

When the stream fails, it freezes on iPhone as in attached photo:

Yes. I disabled 2FA on the guest account and the emails seem to have stopped. It may have taken Eufy's server a while to catch up. The live stream is still hit or miss.

Thank you! This was helpful. I didn’t know the plug in had a wizard now. I clicked through that (also noticed the checkbox to make it streamable was unchecked when it was streaming prior to this update). It’s working now.

Also, the wizard is great! Nice work with the “ignore” option check boxes. I’m using a guest account and only shared the non-HomeKit enabled units so I didn’t need them, but it’s a really nice touch.

Lastly, the item which I previously could not mention (still can’t yet) now appears AND works! You guys rule!

FYI I am seeing this in the log. The “Xnew cameraX” is a single device. It shows multiple accessories (motion, and 2 switches) Also has it’s own “homebase siren” type device with armed/home etc:

I'm getting this when upgrading. It's like it's glitching out. Restarted pi4 it's running on and tried again. Same thing.

Picture doesn't capture it. It's like it thinks it's "scrolling a list" but it's just the one line changing rapidly and not really seeming to make progress. The screenshot captured it inbetween "glitches"

Update: Refreshed and tried again. It still looked glitchy but it did finish. "new camera" is working for streaming w/no audio. It actually comes up quicker than the doorbell. The doorbell shows the White Eufy screen for a long time and then eventually will stream sometimes and error out others. Also no audio.
