I recently broke the default cylindrical mapping used when a model doesn't have its own texture coordinates in the case when we aren't generating patch geometry for hair rendering. The cylindrical mapping code itself seems to be working because it's shared by the patch/fin model creation code and is working for the hair case so maybe it's something to do with measuring the bounds of the model that I broke.
