Mic stops working when another program accesses it

This effectively renders it useless.

I am able to get the mic, but when another program, say Firefox, access the microphone, it stops working and no audio is detected.

At first, pavucontrol shows this:

Now if I use Firefox:

And it starts working again (after some time, i.e., not instantly) if I terminate the access/use of it in Firefox.

I don't know why it's happening to you, but I have an idea:

Could you try muting those 2 Mumble entries on Recording tab? It may be some kind of noise cancellation.

No difference. Issue still persists :(

Doesn't work with Chromium too.

But Microsoft Teams works.

Seems like anything other than Input from in the last entry won't work.

Created https://github.com/siddhpant/broo inspired by this and it seems to work (my distro moved to PipeWire so that may be a factor too).

Thanks for this repo! This has helped me extensively in the pandemic.
