Install the plugin the same way you would normally install phpBB plugins.
The directory structure should follow /yourdomain.com/ext/phpbbseo/usu
After enabling extension you will see the PHPBB SEO tab on the top of your screen in the ACP panel
Click on the SEO tab and enable the settings you wish to manipulate.
I choose advanced and mostly all or on for me except small word removals.
After making all of your changes in the settings, you will need to submit this form. You will then synchronize the URL's in the URL Synchronization Tab at the bottom and then Go to Forum URL Management and submit the URL Name caches and you should see that section turn green.
You can then click on the Server Config section and click on save the server config. This will generate a couple of files for you in the /yourdomain.com/ext/phpbbseo/usu/cache directory. Copy the .htaccess file and use it to replace the one in /yourdomain.com/ (in other words, you root folder of your domain)
After this file has been overwritten you can head back to the ACP and PHPBB SEO tab and enable Activate URL Rewriting.
Everything should now be working.
This is a basic tutorial as of the way I do it myself and everything seems to be working. I have been doing tests for weeks now.
