External dependencies and referencing in a project

Any ideas on how the community-built libraries/packages/modules (however you might call it - dependencies in short) should be shared and used in application projects in the future? Some mechanism of referencing would be awesome. Maybe pulling them directly from git repos would be a good place to start.
Not sure if you already have some ideas regarding this topic that you plan to implement in future.
