I would appreciate some help getting fzf working on MacOS

For some reason my fzf does not work. When I enter the command fzf my terminal screen empties, I see a little spinning wheel next to 0/0 and below the the > prompt. Not matter how long I leave it, it never finds any files. I have tried a few things like vim $(fzf) and the do the same.

• I have a clean build of Big Sur (MacOS 11.4)
• I use homebrew as my package manager
• I use bash shell, updated from the one Apple ship via homebrew
• I have installed fzf via brew install fzf
• I have tried running it in both regular terminal and iterm2 (v 3.4.8)

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

A bit more information. I ran activity monitor. It looks to be that find is thrashing my CPU in the background. 100% for the hour I have left fzf running.

Hmmm, I resolved this but I'm not sure why/how it works. I installed Gnu coreutils via homebrew and set them to replace the regular MacOS commands in my bash profile script(s). Everything now works like a charm.
