Acquia recommends using imagemagick over gd2.
They ship with jpegtran and pngcrush by default.

Platform.sh can have custom utilities installed, perhaps even the full range of options available in the drupal modules.

Drupal modules to add:

  • drupal/image_style_quality
  • drupal/imageapi_optimize
  • drupal/imageapi_optimize_binaries
  • drupal/imagemagick
