Issues building MOOSE (MacOS issue?)

Hi all,

I'm trying to reinstall MOOSE and am running into a strange error.

From what I can tell, I have the newest moose environment (moose-dev=2024.04.23) properly setup, but when I try to run make -j 4 in the moose/test directory, after cloning the latest version of MOOSE from GitHub I get the following error:

The snippet about /Users/alin/projects/moose/framework/contrib/tinyhttp/src/tinyhttp/http.x86_64-apple-darwin13.4.0.opt.lo in the error message leads me to believe it's an issue with MacOS as Darwin 13.4.0 refers to a very old version of MacOS (Catalina 10.9).

Admittedly, I first got this error on end-of-life version 10.15 of MacOS, but have since recreated the same error on MacOS 13.6.

I've also tried running the update_and_rebuild scripts for petsc, libmesh, and wasp before trying to rebuild, but I got the same error. Has anyone run into a similar issue or have an idea of what could be wrong?

MSG_NOSIGNAL should come from the <sys/socket.h> system C include. We might have to dig around some to see if it's not supported with an older C library.

From lpeterse/haskell-socket#8 it looks like it might just not be available.

@aclin4 can you try adding #define MSG_NOSIGNAL 0 in the top of that http.C include and see if it compiles?

I can come up with a better solution once I'm online, but this should be a sanity check. We shouldn't be hitting that line of code so even though this is a hacky fix, it should at least get things working for you in the interim.

Thanks for getting back on this. Before I was able to try your suggestion, I managed to fix the issue by updating my version of Command Line Tools for Xcode, as it wasn't automatically updated with my MacOS update.

If you want to try and recreate the issue, I think I was getting the error on Command Line Tools for Xcode 11.5 and fixed the issue by updating to version 15.0.

In case anyone runs into a similar issue, try updating Command Line Tools for Xcode via the Apple Developer app store.

I just got the same issue. But updating the command line tool didn't work. Adding "#define MSG_NOSIGNAL 0" worked.
