• Are we going to be interested only in unified x data (same x for all z)

Not sure if I understand the question. You mean to have always the
same x? My question would be that I dont think so, as the x range can
be choosen for every measurement in some systems (like the Qontor we
have. In the Neegala for example is fixed). What would be required is
the posibility to interpolate. Also, by unifying the x data, we might
loss some info, dont we? Plus different gratings would give different
intervals.

By slices you mean spectra? Dealing with Maps, both might be the
case. Normaly you would apply the same processing steps (for example,
you would substract a baseline from all spectra, but baselines will be
individually calculated). Then of course, we might want to focus only
in some of the spectra based on some criteria. We might want to do
some clustering for grouping the similar spectra and correlated with
location on the map, for example.

I am not sure what you mean here either. We can have a mixture of
components mapped, and we might be interested in different features.

No, as said above, we might be scanning over different material
components having different peaks.
