Definition

To host is to provide a location for a specific element (often an agent or resource) to perform one or more specific functions, or to be safely stored.

Specialized Definitions

In event planning, to host is to govern a location for a social event. (This role is often held by a collective which delegates all or part of that role to specific persons.)

In digital media networking, to host is to provide a secure storage location for a specific media item.

Notes

To develop sustainably distributed digital networks, media item hosts should be identified as specific agents. However, hosting is a non-creative activity which agents can potentially delegate to bots or devices.

Identifying media hosts complexly via a set of hosting locations which each have one or more socially responsible hosts could facilitate the development of reliably distributed, resilient and efficient media networks.
