Definition

Hardware is a trait of all physical tools which have specific persistent functions within a specific context.

Notes

Hardware contrasts with (and is often complemented by) software. Software may be physically recorded and transmitted, but software is fundamentally an information resource-- and recorded media (including software) can perform highly variable functions within specific contexts.

Examples

• A hammer is a hardware item.
• A computer contains multiple hardware components such as a CPU, user input devices and display devices.
