I was wondering about this, and had a couple of ideas for clearly defining what a 'list' style menu while also improving visual reactions to clicks.
Firstly - what makes it different from a normal menu with widget-like buttons
Secondly - Why is the only visual reaction to clicking a menu item the entire menu closing (how would someone with poor eyesight confirm that they clicked what they wanted to? Normal buttons recess and get highlighted with acc. colour)
My idea was that in a similar vein to the 'blink' done when selecting a context/popover menu item in macOS, there could be a breif blink of accent colour on the selected item. This would:
a: act consistently to 'button' buttons while also not changing the fact it's a flat widget
b: help users confirm the action they clicked, and that they didn't just missclick the wrong button or off the menu (a11y features are just features)
@cassidyjames I think you could have some pretty good input on this discussion!
