hmmSSF fits state-switching step selection functions (HMM-SSFs) with covariate-dependent transition probabilities. In other words, hmmSSF defines behavioural states based on both movement and habitat selection model (i.e., an SSF).

hmmSSF thus fits into "Space and habitat use characterization" and "Behavioral pattern identification".
