@MartiMan79 - this is very cool. I work around these all the time for work but I'm not allowed to touch them (gas compressor stations). For my house though I'm planning to design a PCB to hold an arduino with a set of relays to control an electric fireplace.

PS: thought I'd bring the discussion about random stuff over here so we don't muck up the issue about grafana cameras. Which is gaining steam, several others on discord are discussing it also.

It took me quite some years to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, if I could do it over I would’ve gone into electronics and robotics.
I didn’t finish school and started as a co2 laser cutting operator at a company because I needed work. I started fixing the thing when broken and was invited to do maintenance on the machines they were fabricating. From there I made my way into the engineering department being responsible for the electrical and software development of that specific machine (3 years after I started there as an operator). I taught myself everything by experimenting.
Autodidact like we say.
Only downside is, I know a lot but just a little bit of everything which can be very frustrating sometimes😂😂😂

Sounds cool to engineer things on PCB level, had electronics at evening school but didn’t finish it due to traveling abroad for work too much (up and downside of being a PLC engineer).

That’s also the reason I quit that job...
Family comes first at one point and I got frustrated being away from home all the time.

I registered myself at discord but think this is a bit beyond my comprehension regarding programming. The only coding I did in Siemens PLC was very simplistic VBA😂
But nice to see where the ideas come from!

I ended up here because of your node red - Homekit - OpenHAB post on the OpenHAB forum so thanks for that as this is my final setup after trying a combination of dozen others that somewhere limited me in realizing my ideas😉

Sounds like a fun ride! Thanks for sharing.

I went around the block a while before ending up here. First was homebridge on a pi zero with insteon “native homekit” lights. Native goes in quotes there because the homebridge hub was the red headed stepchild of insteon, that thing was garbage.

I spent years trying to deal with it. Went through home assistant, openhab, both for a while, then stuck with openhab while I was pulled more and more into nodered. Now I’m 100% nodered and I’ve moved lights to Zwave.

I’ve also switched to Zwave light switches everywhere.

It’s cool to see my famous openhab post is still helpful! That was like two years ago 🤣 I was only just getting things figured out in nodered, I’ve come a long way since.
