Visual Studio 2017 or newer required?

I'm using the react-app folder of this code. When I run npm install, I get these errors indicating that VS 2017 must be installed. I'm only running VS Code and would rather not install an entire IDE just for this to install. Is there a work-around?

I'm running with VS2022 and the "Desktop development with C++" workload and getting these errors too.
