What if this was framed as:

1. 'What do you want to learn about'
2. 'What you could teach'
   With searching based on those terms?
   Assuming that can give a common ground for interesting conversation and what you'd want to hang out with someone for. Would likely end up in the same places in the conference out of shared interest too?

If the 'create your own itinerary' feature is popular, then allow them to opt into meeting people with similar ones with a single click?
