Jeroen noticed this during testing on the server. The VRE gives an unhelpful error message in this case. It is not really clear when this happens; probably it is best to enable Sentry on the acceptation server to receive more information.

Maybe also try whether we can make the frontend error messages more informative? But I guess that is an EDPOP issue.
