Quick summary

In Link in Bio flow, navigating back from the checkout page can lead to creating an extra site. cc @Automattic/vertex

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start at /setup/link-in-bio
  2. Proceed to the plans page and pick a paid plan.
  3. In the checkout page, click the back button of the browser til you escape the processing screen and the checkout page. From my testing, you'd likely reach the intro step.
  4. Complete the whole flow. In Calypso dashboard, go to the site list and there will be 2 sites other than 1.

What you expected to happen

Actions done after back-navigation should apply to the same site.

What actually happened

Actions done in the 2nd run of the flow are all for another new site, rather than the previously created site.

Other notes

The signup framework used to have this problem and it was quite impactful. The solution can be found in https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/blob/trunk/client/signup/main.jsx#L166, but that's quite framework specific solution.

I'm unable to replicate this exact flow, however, we know there are other scenarios where this happens during the onboarding and we gathered it here:

#96948

Since we recently updated the signup flows, it's like we won't be able to replicate this very soon.

I'm going to close it for now.
